You can ignore your email inbox, but don't ignore your mailbox.

Recently, the Covington Postmaster visited our neighborhood and showed a board member several mailboxes that were so stuffed that the mail carrier was not able to put any more mail into the box. He said that the majority of the homeowners in our neighborhood neglect their mailboxes. If you ignore your mailbox, the mail carrier will do one of two things — leave a notice in your box that confirms that your mailbox is overflowing and your mail is being held at the local post office. Or, return all your mail to the post office and hold it 10 days, labelling the address as vacant. After 10 days the 1st and 2nd class and parcels are returned to senders. Bulk and non-profit mail is trashed according to postal regulations. The Postmaster asks, “Please empty your mailboxes on a regular basis."

Sometimes the opposite is true, where mail is not delivered. If that happens, it might be because a car is parked too close to the mailbox stand. Please park at least a whole car-length distance away from mailboxes.
